Hashcat – Quest for Speed Part 1.5

Hashcat – Part 1.5 on Youtube

The search for a faster Hashcat continues…..

Following on from episode one, I decided I would add in a WPA2 for our Hashcat speed comparisons!

This also gave me an opportunity to use a Wifi Pineapple to capture a WPA2 handshake and additionally, show how the new interface allows for switching between 2.4 and 5 Ghz.

The Wifi network i set up uses a known password mask based on the SSID, but this is very much a brute forcing method as I set the PSK to a random combination based on the standard mask. This gave us some timing based on using hashcat on our previous devices.

Below, you will find the results so far which I will keep updating as we progress through different methods.

Whats Next?

What’s coming in part 2? I will be including some cloud computing options to see if they give any performance boosts, The results may surprise you…..

Also, in order to make the cloud process simpler, I was using a script I wrote to set up each cloud instance. This got me thinking, it might be useful for other people too. So this will be released on Github at the time the next episode comes out.

All that’s left to say is i hope you all had a great Christmas and I’m wishing you all a happy new year!
